The Best Pre Surf Snacks

by Nadia Redel

Picture
Before you hit the line up make sure to fuel yourself properly, so that you can get the most out of your session.  When your body is fueled you feel energized, stronger and mentally clear. These are key factors to performing your best. The best pre surf snacks are ones that will give you sustained energy and comprise mainly of complex carbohydrates.  One thing to keep in mind is how long you have before your surf session. If you have less than 30 minutes, keep it lite and always make sure it is nutrient dense.  If you have over 30 minutes, fuel up on complex carbs that will keep you feeling satiated and energized longer, but be mindful not to over eat.

Here are a few of my favorite options:
  1. Avocado on Toast, you can pair it with an egg for added protein and energy
  2. Banana with almond butter
  3. Fruit/Veg Smoothie
  4. Dates with nutbutter
  5. Yogurt and granola with berries ( dairy free yogurts made of coconut, soy or almond and cashew are a great alternative and tend to be kinder on your digestion)
  6. Celery and hummus
In addition, to eating correctly make sure to hydrate!  I cannot stress this enough. Coconut water is great, but good old fashion, no thrills water is the best!  Stay hydrated throughout the day.
